Gluten-Free Candy: Nima Goes to the Movies
The Nima office is abuzz discussing our 2016 film favorites for the best picture honor at the Oscars this weekend. We’re cramming in the films we haven’t seen yet before the red carpet rolls out on Sunday, and a day at the movies isn’t complete without gluten-free candy to munch on. Not sure which movie theater candy is gluten-free? We’ve got you covered. We tested six of our favorite movie theater treats.
Gluten-free movie theater candy #nimatested list
Here’s our haul of treats we tested:
- Reese’s Pieces (labeled gluten-free, not certified)
- Peanut Butter M&Ms (no gluten-containing ingredients)
- Milk Duds (labeled gluten-free, not certified)
- Raisinets (labeled gluten-free, not certified)
- Sour Patch Watermelon (no gluten-containing ingredients)
- Swedish Fish (no gluten-containing ingredients)
Always remember to use clean hands and utensils before sampling to prevent external cross-contact! We tested each item with clean hands/gloves and used clean utensils to cut or break apart each candy, since we were testing these all in a row. All you need is a pea-sized amount, so you still get to eat the majority of the box/bag.
Battle of the peanut butter bites
We love peanut butter, and choosing between Reese’s Pieces and Peanut Butter M&Ms is always a hard choice. Will Nima help us make the decision?
Both samples tested gluten-free, so the choice is yours! Team Reese’s or Team M&Ms?
Gummy vs. gummy
Since Twizzlers and licorice are no-gos for gluten-free cinephiles, we hunted for something gluten-free and gummy.
Both Swedish Fish and Sour Patch Watermelons tested gluten-free. So whether you like sweet or sour, either are chewy* gluten-free treats.
We’re convinced that anything is delicious if you cover it in chocolate.
If you like to at least try and get some fruit servings with your candy, Raisinets are gluten-free and made with real fruit!
Milk Duds are a sticky*, caramel-y gluten-free option that will keep you chewing through the whole movie.
BONUS: Gluten-free popcorn
It’s not a candy, but who doesn’t love movie theater popcorn? After seeing the Nima smile at AMC Theaters, we had no shame running to concessions for multiple refills of gluten-free popcorn.
*Nima pro tip – When testing gummy or really chewy items, remember to keep the sample size small so you don’t clog the capsule.
