If you visited Walt Disney World when you were younger, you’re likely familiar with the Downtown Disney resort area – a shopping, dining and entertainment complex outside of the four main theme parks. In recent years, Disney has rebranded Downtown Disney at WDW to Disney Springs, bringing with it a plethora of new restaurants and shops in which to indulge without the need for park admission. After shopping till you drop at World of Disney, you’ll surely need gluten-free sustenance and a place to get off your feet. But how do the revamped gluten-free Disney Springs offerings stack up?
We put its restaurants and bakeries to the Nima test to bring you the best of gluten-free Disney Springs dining. See below for our Nima guide and keep reading to see some of our favorite dishes that earned a Nima smile.
Gluten-free Disney Springs: Nima favorites
While the Boathouse doesn’t have a separate allergy-friendly menu, Chef David wowed us with fish tacos that came in corn tortillas and with a special spicy pepper sauce to replace the usual sauce that contained dairy. He was able to customize dishes for every dietary need and welcomed the challenge.
The slaw underneath the fish was quite possibly the best part of the tacos. If you can eat seafood, the Boathouse is a must do. Menu
Those who are familiar with celebrity chef Rick Bayless will have heard of his Frontera restaurants featuring Mexican cuisine from his extensive years spent in Mexico. We were pleasantly surprised how knowledgeable the staff were on allergens on the menu and were able to make the red chile chicken enchiladas gluten-free (just skip the crispy onions). Their tortilla chips are also gluten-free! You’ll also enjoy the gorgeous blue and orange interior – make sure you walk around to check out the chandeliers and artwork! Menu
Raglan Road Irish Pub
Raise your hand if you miss fried foods (we know it’s not super healthy, but sometimes you just have a craving, right?). Raglan Road is a quintessential Irish pub, complete with live pub music and Irish dancing to complement the traditional Irish fare. The wait staff are knowledgeable about their menu and how dishes can be accommodated. The star of the show is certainly the gluten-free fish and chips – fried in a dedicated fryer for gluten-free items. They also have a separate fryer for shellfish-free items! Enjoy with a gluten-free cider if you’re 21 and up. Menu
Erin McKenna’s Bakery NYC
No surprise here – Erin McKenna’s make our list for best gluten-free desserts. Erin McKenna’s is a dedicated gluten-free and vegan (yay dairy-free!) bakery that offers everything from cupcakes and cookies to vegan soft serve ice cream! You can also pick up some gluten-free, vegan bagels for breakfast to take back to your hotel room for a quick pre-park hopping breakfast, too. Menu
